Howard's Home Theater Cables and Power.

Many Home Theaters contain at least several miles of wires. There are component interconnects, speaker cables, electrical wiring and cords, and power conditioners.

All video interconnect cables are Monster Cable Super Video 3, analog audio interconnect cables are Monster Cable Interlink® 400 MkII Advanced Bandwidth Balanced® Audio Interconnects, digital interconnects are Interlink® LightSpeed™ 200 Digital Fiber Optic Cable and Interlink® Datalink™ 100 Low-Loss S/PDIF Style Digital Coaxial Cables.

All of my speaker cables are Kimber Kable 8TC for the 3 front speakers and 4PR for all remaining speaker runs. Note that Kimber Kable is the ONLY speaker cable vendor that sells "twisted pair" style copper. While I'm sure these cables are not up to Cat 5 specs they should in theory reject interference much like a Cat 5 or Cat 3 wire would in a noisy environment. They were not overly expensive and sound as good as many others I've heard.

The basics of any system start with the 110V AC power supplied to your home. Power supply upgrades can often make noticeable improvements in your system. I have pulled 3 dedicated 20 amp circuits to my room using 10 gauge wire and Hubbell hospital grade outlets. I had the electrician make sure that the ground wires for all 3 circuits were touching each other at the tie down on my breaker panel in an effort to eliminate any ground loops.

Additional power supply enhancements include a Monster Power HTS-5000 line conditioner and surge protection. While I'm not crazy about installing a series based product in the system when you live in Dallas you REQUIRE lightening protection during the spring.

I also have just recently obtained a Richard Gray's Power Company 400S. The device is described as a reactive interface into which you plug your entire audio, video, or home-theater system in order to achieve high current on demand. How this happens is best explained by analogy to a mechanical flywheel. Our proprietary design (patents pending) consists of an extremely large inductor surrounding a unique core structure. This inductor or "choke" is positioned in parallel with the AC line. And that, dear consumer, is the heart of our secret: in parallel. Parallel technology provides the straight-through path your components require to perform as they were intended to do. An inductor operates as a reactive entity under In addition, Richard Gray's Power Company is unique in its ability to fill in the line when demand overcomes supply and similarly unique in its ability to even-out line anomalies. It likewise suppresses back-reflected EMF (electromotive force), i.e., the "fingerprint" of the equipment connected to it.
I noticed that my Sunfire subwoofer just loves being attached to this product. They go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. I also tested the RGPC with my Def Tech speakers but did not notice nearly as much improvment. I suspect this may be due to the fact that I had all 3 speakers on a single unit. I wish I had more cash on had to purchase a second one for additional testing.

The Richard Gray 400S in action with my Sunfire subwoofer. Ignore the ground lifter in place. This is an OLD and outdated photo. I have solved my ground loop problem and eliminated the lifer. It was of poor quality anyway.
