Howard's Home Theater Full Range Speakers.

The core of any home theater are the full range speakers. They define the "personality" of the system. I currently own the top of the line Definitive Technology loud speaker products. Read on for more info.

Definitive Technology flagship speaker products.

Main Left and Right Speakers:
Definitive Bipolar 3000TLs comprise the main left and right speakers. Each tower contains 4-6.5" cast-basket, bass/midrange drivers, 2-1" pure aluminum dome tweeters in D'Appolito arrays, and cast-basket 18" sub w/1000-watt RMS Infinite Power Source amp. I have my BP 3000TLs set so that the sub woofers face inwards or towards the TV. They produce too much boomy bass that rattled the walls otherwise. Click here for the full scoop on these macho boxes. Center Front Speaker:
Did you know that the vast majority of a movie's sound track is comprised of dialog? This makes the center speaker perhaps the most important component of any 5.1 audio system. Dialog must be reproduced in a clear and faithful manner. The Definitive Technology C/L/R 3000 is their top center speaker with a 10" 150 watts RMS powered sub woofer, 2 cast-basket 6.5" bass/midranges, and 1" pure aluminum dome tweeter. Yes, that powered subwoofer really DOES make a difference. Use a DVD with James Earl Jones (The Hunt for Red October) voice and you'll understand. My CLR 3000 is set on top of the rear projection TV and angled downwards using leveling feet towards the listener.

Left and Right Rear Surrounds:
Your home theater is not complete without matching surround speakers. They should be close to full range and dipolar or bipolar to create that enveloping sensation. Note these BPVX/P surround speakers include a 125 watt RMS powered 6.5" sub woofers, as well as 2 cast-basket 6.5" bass/mid, and 2 1" pure aluminum domes. I stress that your surround speakers should be nearly full range. Check out DragonHeart and see for yourself. These speakers are mounted in the classic home theater location at the ends of the couch.

Coming soon:
I plan to install a BPVX/P on the rear wall for Dolby EX and DTS ES sound tracks. Stay tuned for more info on this project.
I also plan to install a pair of Definitive Technology Pro Tower 400s to replace the crappy KLH speakers for multi-channel DVD-Audio and SACD.

Time for some real life photos instead of the very pretty icons the vendors have on their web sites.

Ignore the pile of junk in the corner and all of the wires. I'm going to clean this up someday. Really. Cross my heart and hope to die.
